Europe is packed with small villages, hidden gems, charming islands, and cliffside castles, so it wasn’t hard to list romantic places in Europe for honeymoon.
Who says you must leave the old continent for a fantastic honeymoon when you can find everything you ever wanted right here?
With so many people worldwide flocking to some of these places, you’ll want to make up your mind fast and make that plan!
I’ll guide you through well-known places and show you some of Europe’s hidden gems you won’t believe exist. Ideally, you will want to plan a European tour, but with limited time, choose one of the following dreamy destinations.

The most romantic places in Europe for honeymoon
Santorini or the Cyclades
Maybe an obvious choice, Santorini or any of the Cyclades islands are beautiful and romantic.
Anyone will want to come here at least for a few days and explore the volcanic beaches, take pictures on the charming streets, eat delicious Greek food, go on a sunset cruise, or watch the sunset in Oia, with a view and some local wine.
If you want to see more of Greece during your holiday, book a Greek island-hopping vacation and explore Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens in one single vacation.
Amalfi Coast – Positano
One of my favorite destinations, the Amalfi Coast, is a place anyone should see at least once in a lifetime.
Colorful buildings perched on hills overlooking the sea, lemon orchards with some of the most juicy fruits, fancy restaurants, and luxurious hotels. You’ll have it all on the Amalfi Coast and much more!
Positano might be one of the most romantic cities in the world, and it is a popular destination no matter the occasion. However, I encourage you to book a stay at one of the famous villas in Ravello and marvel at these romantic spots.
You won’t want to miss a trip to Capri Island, the Blue Lagoon, exploring the most colorful island in Italy – Procida, hiking the Path of Gods, and much more.
Germany Romantic Road
For many, Germany might not sound like a very romantic destination at first glance. However, with tens of castles, small fairytale villages, endless vineyards, and charming Christmas Markets, Germany brings a whole lot to the game.
You won’t go wrong if you rent a car and drive the Romantic Road. Follow my itinerary and guide, and you’ll see some of the most beautiful places in Germany: Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a colorful medieval city, Wurzburg, Cochem, Burg Eltz, and many other castles.
Budapest and Hungary
When we think about Europe’s romantic capitals, Paris, Vienna, or Rome automatically come to mind. However, Budapest is a hidden gem that will surprise you, especially during spring or fall.
Take a sunset cruise on the river splitting Budapest in two, climb the Gellert Hill, choose a luxury accommodation with access to state-of-the-art SPA treatments, go on a cooking and wine-tasting tour, and much more. There’s simply no way to get bored while in Budapest.

Southern France
A honeymoon in the South of France promises an idyllic and romantic escape, combining the allure of the Mediterranean with charming landscapes, rich history, and exquisite cuisine.
Imagine strolls through Provence’s lavender fields, exploring the French Riviera’s picturesque coastal villages and indulging in delightful wines and gourmet meals.
Nice, with its Promenade des Anglais and vibrant Old Town, provides a perfect blend of beach relaxation and cultural exploration.
Head to the glamorous town of Saint-Tropez for its sandy beaches, trendy boutiques, and lively nightlife. Inland, the lavender-scented landscapes of Provence offer a tranquil backdrop for intimate moments. The historic town of Aix-en-Provence provides a romantic ambiance with its tree-lined streets, charming squares, and fountains.
Conclude your honeymoon in the South of France with a visit to the enchanting city of Marseille, where a mix of ancient history and modern vitality awaits.
Crete Island, Greece
Greece’s largest island, Crete, can be both a low-key and luxurious destination.
Stay in Eastern Crete, and you’ll find plenty of accommodation options suitable for any honeymoon. Elounda is considered to be Greece’s Cote D’Azure, with stunning views, adult-only 5* resorts, infinity pools, beautiful beaches, and plenty of vacation activities.
However, if you want to spend your days by the pink sand beach, stroll through the streets of Venetian towns, and be mesmerized by the beauty of Balos, you will choose the Western side of the island.
Colmar and Alsace
While Paris is on most people’s bucket list, it is also one of the most picturesque areas in Europe. A shorter or longer vacation here will leave you utterly in love. Stroll through the cobbled streets, taste delicious food, and take a boat trip on the canals.
For good reason, Colmar is one of the most famous villages in the Alsace region. From here, you can drive through vineyards, stay in a 5-star chalet, taste gourmet French delicacies at Michelin-star restaurants, and explore colorful and vibrant small towns.
Many other charming small towns are within driving distance, making Colmar the perfect setting for your unforgettable honeymoon.
Tenerife, Canary Islands
Tenerife in the Canary Islands is one of the most popular destinations in Spain. It offers sunny days and sandy beaches year-round.
Choose a hotel perched on volcanic cliffs with infinity pools, a private golf course, a sea view, and incredible facilities like Melia Hacienda del Conde.
Some of the best things to do on the island for couples include going on a sunset cruise, where you will see dolphins and whales, spending one day at the Aqua Club Thermal Spa, stargazing on the Teide volcano, the highest mountain in Spain, indulging in delicious Spanish dishes, and more.
Munich and Bavaria
Munich is and will always remain a beloved destination, a place I will never get tired of going back to. It is so charming yet authentic and lively.
With romantic architecture and plenty of palaces and castles to visit both in the city and on a day trip, the capital of Bavaria is the perfect setting for a romantic honeymoon.
Stay at a boutique 5* hotel in the heart of the city (the Bayerischer Hof is an excellent option packed with history), spend a day at the SPA in Erdinger, visit Nuremberg and get lost on its streets, stroll through the English Garden and listen to local music while munching on a huge pretzel at a beer garden. The options and activities are countless, and you won’t see them all in just one week.
Lisbon and Portugal
Breathtaking sunsets, mouthwatering seafood, strolling up and down the hills, admiring the colorful and vibrant architecture, listening to fado with a glass of Porto wine—Lisbon has so many activities perfect for couples.
Step into a fairytale with a day trip to Sintra, where you can explore picture-perfect castles, visit the westernmost place in Europe, eat fresh seafood in a restaurant on the coast in Estoril or Cascais, or ride the old tram to the beach.
The Dolomites
Northern Italy is much more than Venice or Milan; once you get to know it better, you won’t find it hard to fall in love with the region.
Whether you go skiing in Cortina d’Ampezzo, take a boat ride on Braise Lake, or climb the mountains in the Val di Funes, there are many things to enjoy in the Dolomites.
