Where to stay in Positano
Luxury hotels with a view for a honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast
When you come here for a honeymoon, it is normal that you will only want to go the extra mile to have a special vacation. Choosing the right accommodation shouldn’t be too hard because here is where you will find some of the most luxurious hotels in Italy.
Don’t expect to find hotels with hundreds of rooms because you won’t. That’s another advantage of staying in Positano – most of the hotels are hosted in villas with only a few rooms.
Here are my top picks for luxury hotels in Positano.

Le Sirenuse
One of the most iconic places in Positano, and maybe the most photogenic as well. You can’t get more central than this because you will be only steps away from the heart of the village and minutes away from the beach.
Home to one of the most famous bars in Positano, they also feature an oyster bar, and a Michelin-starred restaurant.
All rooms have private balconies, and by staying here you will have access to their infinity pool, hammam, and fitness center.
I dream of staying for at least one night at this stunning hotel, and a honeymoon or a special anniversary could be just the perfect occasion.

Although this hotel is set a little bit outside of Positano, they do offer tons of advantages for staying here.
A stunningly beautiful 5* hotel with a vibrant and luxurious interior design, a private beach so you won’t have to worry about the crowds, and a fitness center you will have access to. You will also have access to a state-of-the-art SPA and an outdoor pool.
Additionally, here you will also find a Michelin-star restaurant that is almost always fully booked, with a terrace overlooking the colorful houses and the sea.
Don’t worry about traveling to and from the center of town, because the hotel has a free shuttle bus available for their guests.

Set on the hilltop above the main beach of Positano, this hotel boasts incredible views because of its location. Only 15 minutes away from the city center and the beach, here you will be close to the action, yet in a tranquil setting.
Here, you will have access to a rooftop pool from where you can admire the whole beauty of the village and the deep blue of the sea. When you want to relax, you can spend the time at the SPA or unwind with a glass of good Italian wine at the bar with city views.

Choose this place if you want to live the authentic Italian experience! That’s because this is a family-run hotel that has been furnished with such good taste you won’t want to leave.

Mid-range hotels in Positano
Expect these hotels to get sold out relatively fast especially in peak season. Also, mid-range for Positano might not be what you expect, since hotels are pricey in the village.
For me, that would be any hotel with a price range between 100 EUR and 200 EUR for one night. Fortunately, especially when you choose to travel between September and October, there will be many such options to choose from.
A family-run hotel with a great location and stunning views, AC in all their rooms. Make sure to book way in advance, because they have only a few rooms.

Have a delicious breakfast every morning served directly in your room, on the balcony overlooking the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. Stroll the 10 minutes to the beach, and choose from the many restaurants you will find in the area around this great accommodation option in Positano.
It is worth knowing that this place is set up on the hill, so you will have to exercise a little or take the bus to get here.

Hotel Villa Delle Palme in Positano A bright and cheerful location, with authentic Italian interiors and stunning balconies or terraces, with only 9 rooms available.
The beach and the center of Positano might not be so close, but the bus stop is steps away for when you don’t feel like walking much.
All rooms have AC and you can enjoy a delicious breakfast with a view, and they have parking spaces next to the hotel but should expect to pay extra.

Apartments and villas in Positano
A simple accommodation option offering beautiful views and incredible services. You’ll have a supermarket right around the corner, and the beach only a short walk away.
You will have plenty of space here and a private kitchen, making it the perfect choice for when you plan on staying for at least a few days or even a week.

Casetta Fè nel cuore di Positano
A whole apartment in the heart of Positano, as the name, says it.
Here, you will enjoy ultimate privacy and you can spend hours on your own terrace with a view over the coquette village, or even the garden.
The apartment is fully equipped for when you want to spend a longer vacation in Positano.
I would stay here for the view that comes with such an affordable price tag. Also, this is a big apartment, with 2 rooms and a fully equipped kitchen but also a washing machine for when you spend a longer vacation on the Amalfi Coast.

Where to stay in Positano on a budget
While there are a few options for apartments and accommodation for around 50 EUR per night, most of these places would be sold out fast and might be available when you travel during Spring or Fall.
If you want to find more options, be open to staying outside of Positano, in some of the less popular villages of the Amalfi Coast. Places like Vietri, Cetara and even Maiori would have plenty of great budget apartments and hotels. Read my Amalfi Coast on a budget guide for that, I’ve included there a great list of options and useful information you should have.
Stay on a boat
Yes, you can stay on a boat when you want to experience something special.
It is true that the boat is docked in Amalfi, not in Positano, but you can easily get there by sea or bus.
Smile Holidays Boat has AC so you won’t have to worry about the heat during summer, and also a kitchenette with fridge, oven, and microwave.
Where to stay in Positano for families
Families or larger groups of friends might want to book an entire house for their privacy and comfort. If you’re planning to travel with your family or with more friends, and want such a place, here are a few choices.
Villa Cocles a Magical Honeymoon
I know it has “honeymoon” in its name, but this is not a place only for 2 people. The villa has 3 bedrooms and is perfect for up to 3 couples or a larger family.
Set a few minutes away from the beach, you will have access to a kitchen but also a washing machine.
On the terrace, you can gather for dinner or simply to relax and spend some time together.

A 3-bedroom villa, fully equipped, and with a seating area where you can gather to spend quality time together or simply admire the view over the sea and the coast.

Where to stay in Positano for larger groups
So you’re planning a celebration, or maybe you have a large group of friends or a large extended family you like to travel with, and you are in the look for a place that could host you all.
Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered because I have chosen 2 such places.
An elegant villa where you can experience the history and truly authentic Italian hospitality.
The villa hosts up to 16 people and 3 children in the 7 bedrooms decorated in an artistic style, with bright balconies offering breathtaking views over Positano.
Guest staying here will have full access to a lush garden and an outdoor swimming pool torn out of movies. At the bar by the terrace, you can enjoy typical Italian snacks and cocktails when you’re back from a trip on the Amalfi Coast.

This might not be precisely in Positano, but it is close enough.
People who chose to stay here appreciated most the hosts who made them feel at home, but also the delicious food served at every meal throughout the day.
All rooms overlook the garden and have AC.
Stay in a cabin on the Amalfi Coast
Tenuta Novecento Bioagriturismo
A charming stone cottage, perched on the hills of Agerola, only a few kilometers away from Positano and the sea. Set in the middle of a big garden, with vineyards and different kinds of trees, here, you will feel remote, yet close to the hectic Positano.
The setting is great for those who want to explore the whole Amalfi Coast and you won’t have to worry about finding a parking space because you will have one included in the price.

How to get to Positano
Getting to Positano is not hard when you land at Naples International Airport, the closest airport to the Amalfi Coast.
There are plenty of options to choose from, depending on your budget and preference.
From Naples Airport, there are 61 kilometers by car and a roughly 1-hour drive, depending on traffic.
Starting from the airport, head South, pass through Pompei, Castellmare di Sabbia, Vico Equense, climb the hills and take the winding roads all the way to Positano.
Rent a car – by using an aggregator and booking way in advance, you can secure low prices and won’t have to worry about timetables and different lines. My go-to car rental company is always Discover Cars that can help you save up to 70% on your car rental. Just choose an accommodation that offers free parking and you won’t have to worry much about paying crazy amounts only to park your car. Get your best offers here!
Depending on where you choose to stay in Positano and what you plan to do, you might not need a car to get around. That’s why I strongly suggest booking a private transfer. Roads on the Amalfi Coast could be challenging even for the most experienced drivers. With an all-inclusive private transfer you will forget all about all worries.
If you travel on a budget, you can also get to Positano by public transportation.
That would mean taking the bus from the airport to the train station in Naples, hopping on the Circumvesuviana train that will take you to Sorrento, and from there taking the bus or ferry to Positano.
Bus tickets can be bought from any newspaper stand in the airport or in town. You’ll buy the train tickets from the train station.
Check out ferry schedules and prices here!
When to visit Positano
If you don’t have a particular timeframe in which to visit Positano and can choose any time you like, I would strongly suggest skipping the high season and the months of July and August.
Go for less hot and crowded periods such as April and May, or September and October.
Staying in Sorrento or Positano?
While Sorrento is a great choice and a charming town, anyone should stay in Positano at least once in a lifetime. It is, after all, one of the most romantic places in the world for a good reason.
You can choose to stay in Sorrento when you travel on a budget, or when you want to spend more time in the region, but add at least one or 2 nights in Positano as well, and you won’t regret it.

PIN FOR LATER!
One of the best guides I’ve read, thank you! Any suggestions for trying to combine positano and Tuscany into one 7-10 day itinerary? Thanks so much!
Hi! That would be doable if you choose to stay in Florence for around 4 days (stay 2 days in town and do 2 day trips – maybe San Gimignano, Siena, even Cinque Terre). From there, take the fast train to Naples, it takes around 3 hours and another hour to get to Sorrento. And spend the remaining number of days here – visit Capri island, Positano, Ravello – I do have an itinerary for 5 days on the Amalfi Coast that would help.
