When I think about going on a vacation, most of the time I envision myself traveling somewhere far away, maybe on a remote island where I could disconnect completely. However, a staycation close to home could offer the same benefits, especially when choosing the right hotel to stay in.
The past years and the global situation we’ve gone through has made us look differently at vacationing, and made us appreciate just a few days spent in a different environment. Booking a special getaway in a 5-star hotel has turned out to be another great way of vacationing close to home.
And for those living in Seoul, South Korea (as myself), choosing where to spend a staycation could turn out to be a somewhat difficult task.

But what does a staycation actually mean?
To be honest, it was 2020 when I first heard the word “staycation” and I shortly came to learn its meaning: spending a vacation at home or close by (usually in the same city one lives in).
Since there’s a good reason why you cannot travel, you will most certainly want the staycation to be memorable, fun, or even luxurious in order to make up for not leaving town.
That’s why, if you won’t choose to stay at home and plan for your own special staycation ideas, Marriott International hotels are the perfect choice in Seoul and worldwide.
Benefits of a staycation
Planning a vacation close to home has many advantages and I will try to name only a few here, the most important ones from my point of view.
You can disconnect and get to clear your mind. Many of us find it hard to do so at home, in our familiar environment. Stepping out for a day or two could improve our state of mind and force us to take time off.
You get to have new experiences and meet new people. Whether we are talking about an afternoon tea with a stunning view or a brunch in bed, these are some things that would not be available at home.
You have access to some facilities that are not available at home. A zen SPA, a room overlooking a popular local attraction, a popular restaurant with a world-renown chef – everything is available when you choose the right hotel for your staycation experience.
The cost of a staycation is way lower than that of a full-on vacation. Unlike an overseas vacation, for a staycation in your town, you won’t have to spend tons of money on trains or planes, and you can just take the bus or drive there.
You get to see the town you live in from a different perspective. We often get absorbed by our daily lives and forget to see our city with fresh eyes. Let’s remember how to be a tourist in the place we live in and explore some of its most popular attractions. You can also try new things and activities!
