It would be unfair to say that Santorini Island in Greece is a dream. The island is much more than that, and everyone should spend at least a few days here, and know what to wear in Santorini.
A few years ago, I must admit we were not planning to get to Santorini. But we took the decision in the spur of the moment, and I don’t regret it at all.
In my mind, Santorini was utterly touristic, filled with crowds, expensive, and overrated.
I would lie to say the first 3 are not true. Especially since we visited in August.
Santorini is indeed touristic, but even then, you can also find smaller authentic villages, without the crowds. But it definitely is not overrated. There’s a good reason why everyone has Santorini island on their bucket list.
The white and blue combination is one of the most iconic patterns out there, and the caldera view is what dreams are made of. And looking at the island, you can easily find some Santorini outfit inspiration: blue and white combination.
That’s why I totally get it if you’ve decided to hit the road and head over on the popular Greek island. Just make sure to know what to pack for Santorini. Having the right balance is always good. And I’m here to inspire you with some blue vibes for your Santorini Greece outfits.

Some essential travel tips for Santorini Island
Wear comfortable shoes
It might not look like it, but especially the villages on the Western part of the island are pretty much up on top of a hill. That’s why having comfortable shoes is a must when you plan on exploring every little corner of paradise.
Greek sandals, flats, espadrilles, or even some good old Convers sneakers go a long way and are something you need to pack for Santorini.
Another thing to have in mind is that the stones might get really slippery, thus you must be careful and don’t risk your safety for a picture.
The best color to wear in Santorini: Wear white, blue, or bright/pale colors
The main point is to avoid wearing black.
First of all because of the heat. There’s a good reason why most of the houses on the Greek islands are painted in white: they do that because white does not attract the sun, making it easy to stay inside during those heat waves.
Secondly, because black does not look that good. Sure, there are moments when a little black dress goes a long way. But that’s not something you want to wear in Santorini.
Baby blue, pink, red, and even yellow, will contrast wonderfully with the white houses and the deep blue sea.
Bring on those bathing suits
Just don’t expect you’ll be bathing in the sea when you choose to stay on the Western part of the island. Don’t worry, most of the hotels in Oia or Thira have incredible infinity pools, with views for days.
You won’t want to leave that place. Furthermore, that will make for great picture spots.
Thus, here is a few Santorini outfit inspiration: bring on some pretty colorful bathing suits, but don’t forget those baby blue, navy straps one piece.

Cover-ups
I never leave for the beach without a nice cover-up in my luggage. And you shouldn’t either, because that’s one thing on your what to wear in Santorini list.

Apart from wearing it on my way to and from the beach/pool, I often put it on when those sunlights get to hard to handle, but I still don’t want to leave.
Of course, a nice sarong or cover-up makes a great prop for some Insta-worthy pictures.

Know when to visit
As I’ve said, we spent one week in Santorini in August, but I wouldn’t recommend that if you want to make the best out of your vacation. Chances are that you will be disappointed when choosing to see the island in full season.
The best time to visit Greece and all the lovely Greek islands is usually during the shoulder season. That is April and September.
Since temperatures are pretty high, you can also consider going in early October. Just know that the high season in Greece is between May and August.

Know when not to go to the most popular towns
Of course, Oia and Thira are some of the most popular destinations on the island, and that’s where the crowds will be.
When you choose another town on the island as your main location, you will have to plan your trip to the capital smart.
First of all, don’t go by boat, otherwise, you will need to climb the hundreds of stairs up to the top of the hill. Like we did on a hot August day. Needless to say, it was no fun.
Take the bus, which will leave you just at the entrance of Oia. From there, you will make the best out of your escape on the streets of this picturesque town.
Secondly, check out the cruise schedule and avoid going when they are in the port because that’s when the towns get even more crowded.
The perfect Santorini Greece outfit for a dinner with the caldera view?
Before I get to the perfect Santorini outfit for a dinner, know that when you want to get the best view, you’ll have to book a table ahead of time.
We didn’t book a table for Oia, thus we ended up seeing the sunset from the street, where everyone fights for the best spot. So you should know better.
Moving forward to what to wear in Santorini for a romantic dinner. I went for a long blue dress and just a few accessories. Here is my suggestion for a few dresses for Santorini:
