An Amalfi Coast honeymoon would be any couple’s dream and for good reason. One of the most beautiful destinations in Italy, and not only, filled with luxurious and intimate hotels, restaurants serving delicious food, and a breathtaking landscape, this is the place you will want to consider as well.

Puglia
Still a less popular destination with international tourists, Puglia is the perfect Italy honeymoon destination for those looking for an authentic experience, on a lower budget.
Nothing beats staying in a trullo house with a swimming pool, driving along the winding roads, exploring white washed villages, or swimming in the turquoise waters of the sea.

Courmayeur
Courmayeur is in the north of Italy close to Mt Blanc and the French border. It is the perfect honeymoon destination for people who like the outdoors. During the summer and autumn, hiking in the area is some of the best in Italy and during the winter you can go skiing.
The town itself is charming and full of nice restaurants and shops to browse but the main reason to come here is for the outdoor activities. The best hikes are to Val Veni and over the ridge towards Refugio Walter Bonatti. For a less strenuous way to get amazing mountain views take the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car up to the Mt Blanc viewing platform.
A short bus ride takes you to Chamonix in France allowing you to visit another country and an exciting town.
One of the best places to stay is slightly outside of Courmayeur at Auberge de la Maison in Entreves. It is a very popular beach destination for Italians. There are over seven beaches in the area which are great for snorkeling and boating. You can also enjoy some of the best hikes in Italy. The downtown historic area is also worth checking out before you try one of the local restaurants.

If you’re looking for a relaxed honeymoon destination in Italy, Lake Garda offers the perfect mix of tranquillity and mountain beauty. Located only 2-hours’ drive from Milan Malpensa airport, or a 1-hour train ride from central Milan, Lake Garda truly is easy to reach.
With an array of delightful towns from which to base yourself, Lake Garda has everything from buzzing lakeside accommodations to quiet mountain views. Finding a honeymoon-friendly hotel isn’t a problem, however, picking which cute town to be near might be. Sirmione has the castle and history, Desenzano has a market town atmosphere, and Riva has exceptional mountain views.
You can hop from village to village by passenger ferry or hire a car to drive around the lake edge. Aside from relaxing lake-based activities, Lake Garda offers walking trails and the natural beauty expected from its location in the foothills of the Dolomites. Cycle paths and lakeside parks are plentiful, so your honeymoon on Lake Garda can be as active or chilled as you wish.

Pistoia is a charming, lesser-known village in Tuscany, which makes for a perfect romantic honeymoon destination in Italy. We turned to Michelle Schomp, from Passport Explorers, who has been a full time world-traveling digital nomad for 7 years, to weigh in on Pistoia.
While there are many amazing cities and towns in Italy, Pistoia is a bit off the radar but has all the charm, making it a unique honeymoon. You won’t have to fight loads of tourists as you stroll hand in hand around the picturesque streets, shops, markets, and many historical monuments.
Pistoia is easily accessible by train, which puts you right in the heart of the city. Plus you have many great options for airports, including Florence, Pisa, and Bologna! The train to Florence is only 30-40 minutes, while Pisa is 90 minutes and Bologna is less than 2 hours away.
As a foodie destination, people come from all over to eat at restaurants such as Fiaschetteria and Locanda del Capitano. (Side note is that the owner of Fiaschetteria is the son of the owner of Capitano.) For a relaxing cappuccino and people-watching spot, try Gran Cafe Du Globe. The easiest way to reach Turin is by flying into the Turin Caselle Airport, which is located about 16 kilometers (10 miles) north of the city. From there, you can take a taxi or a bus to get into the city. There are plenty of romantic things to do in Turin, such as taking a stroll through the beautiful Valentino Park, visiting the Mole Antonelliana Tower, which offers stunning panoramic views of the city, and exploring the Royal Palace of Turin, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Lake Maggiore

The closest airport to most of the top destinations on the lake is Milan Malpensa Airport which welcomes flights daily from across Europe. From the airport, it’s around an hour’s drive to the lake, depending on which town you make your base.
The town of Luino is an excellent place to stay on the shores of Lake Maggiore. It has excellent public transport links with a direct train to Milan. In Luino you can take a romantic stroll along the lakeside or relax on one of its beaches.
Wander up the cobbled streets to check out the shops and boutiques and grab an Aperol spritz and a pizza if you’re peckish. There’s a market here on Wednesdays which sells everything from leather goods to fresh bread.
Once you’ve explored everything Luino has to offer, it’s time to head further afield. Hop on a boat to the opposite coast and you’ll find the town of Cannobio. This picturesque town has a lido, shops, and, if you’re feeling adventurous, watersports.
Relax in one of the lake-front restaurants with a couple of glasses of wine as you watch the boats on the lake. Don’t forget to grab a gelato before you head home!
Trento
Trento is a stunning city located in the province of Trentino in northern Italy. Surrounded by mountains, it is the gateway to the mighty dolomite alps.
Trento was a Roman city that was part of the Austrian Empire. It became a popular stop for nobles during the medieval ages, and it connected the Italian peninsula with the rest of the Austrian regions to the north.
Today, the small Italian municipality is known for its colorfully intriguing murals, well-preserved towers, the cathedral, and the castle of the prince-bishop regents. Look out for the romantic palaces decorated in shades of pastel on a stroll through the old town. Visit the symmetrical rose gardens in the Castello del Buonconsiglio, where the gentlewomen of the most powerful houses in Europe would spend their time.
Discover more historical attractions in Trento. Take a cable car ride across the river up to Sardagna hill for the most memorable views. Lake Orta
Italy has long been known for its wealth of romantic honeymoon destinations. One mostly undiscovered destination in northern Italy is Lago d’Orta (Lake Orta) in the northern Piedmont region.
Honeymooners have a choice of either flying into Turin or Milan international airports. From either airport, there is a train/bus combination, but undoubtedly the best way to get around is to rent a car. This allows you to take your time and enjoy the easy scenic drive.
The most popular lake town on Lake Orta is the beautiful and medieval Orta San Giulio which occupies a small peninsula on the lake’s eastern shore and is the perfect destination for an Italian honeymoon.
The narrow streets in Orta San Giulio are lined with boutique and artisan shops, cafes, gelaterias, and restaurants.
One of the best things to do is to take a water taxi to Isola San Giulio, a small island just offshore. Here you’ll find a Benedictine monastery, the Basilica di San Giulio, small coffee shops, and a very good restaurant.
Adjacent to the village is the Sacro Monte of Orta which was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2003. Walking the paths here is peaceful and gives some wonderful scenic views of the lake. Take a picnic and enjoy the afternoon.

With gorgeous monuments, opulent fountains, cobblestoned streets and historic buildings, this ancient city offers a wide range of things to see and do within walking distance with easy access to other cities throughout Italy by train.
Landing at Rome Fiumicino Airport, the city is a quiet train ride or taxi into town where you’re surrounded by thousands of years of history. Whether you’re touring ancient sites like the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Vatican City, or enjoying the quiet breathtaking views of Rome, there are endless romantic things to do for honeymooners. There are also a number of fantastic free things to do in Rome and you can spend your days wandering the city hand-in-hand without spending a dime.
Stroll through less crowded areas like Trastevere and dine by candlelight while sampling some of the best food and wine in the world. Soak in the lush greenery at Borghese Gardens, rent a canoe at Villa Borghese Lake, or enjoy a cappuccino or cocktail in one of Rome’s many stunning piazzas.

Matera
If you’re looking for a romantic destination that will take you back in time, I would suggest visiting Matera, Italy!
Located in the region of Basilicata, Matera has often been nicknamed ‘the City of Caves’ thanks to the dwellings carved out of stone in the Sassi district. It is the third-oldest continually inhabited settlement in the world and it is a maze of zigzagging staircases, steep lanes, and tiny courtyards!
No trip to Matera would be complete without visiting the Rupestrian churches covered in beautiful frescoes. You can also join a guided tour of Palombaro Lungo, a massive water cistern that sits directly underneath the main square. At Casa Grotta di Vico Solitario you can see what life was like in the sassi when locals inhabited the cave dwellings up until the 1950s. Plus, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike to the caves in nearby Murgia National Park.
For a romantic stay, I would recommend booking a guesthouse set in a cave – with all the modern comforts, of course! Le Dodici Lune is a nice option.
As for dining, it’s pasta all the way! Some dishes to try in the region include Orecchiette with cardoncelli mushrooms and pork sausage, Ferricelli with porcini mushrooms and a cheese fondue sauce, and Strascinati with sausage and red peppers. Cave restaurants are a great option for a romantic dining experience including La Finestra Sui Sassi, La Grotta de Sassi, and Ristorante Nadí – the food was exquisite at all three!
